This kit is allows the addition of up to three PCI Express cards to be added to the front of the Poweredge R720 server. The backplane assembly replaces the filler in the right side of the R720 server with a 8x2.5" backplane. The PCIe bridge card plugs into slot 4 in riser 2. The included PCIe cables are routed along the side of the case to the backplane. The backplane has power and signal cables which connect directly to the motherboard. This kit is typically used with full height / half length NVME SSDs. PCIe NVME SSDs provide high IOPS, high data transfer rates and low latency by connecting directly to the PCI express bus, bypassing the overhead present in the SAS and SATA interface. This kit does not provide data redundancy. This must be done from the OS level using software RAID, ZFS or other methods.
